It WORKS

hello today was a rather good result as I got the project to work sucsfully, the pic was programmed and it worked fine, then instead of lighting up LEDs the code was written so that it would send 1s to the three lines from the pic board. Then alterd the VB code so that it talked to COM3 which worked and now when you press the buttons for go left or go right the dish motor moves. Also added a stop button that also makes use of the BRAKE facility form the chip bringing the motor to a stop, next need to get the dish talking back via the reed switch and mesaure how far the dish can travel.

good progress

hello this is to say that I have successfully built a working prototype board, when plugged up got the motor to work and the chip handled the current and voltage fine next stage is get the chip working with James's board which is getting to be a nightmare, I used to keep my project in the locker at the back of the class room now its gone and I cant get the code to work any more, how ever once this works that is almost it, however that next thing to think about is how do I get comms back from the dish counting the open and closed signals from the reed switch???

progress

hello, I have finally made progress. Went to TLS and met with Peter Lee yesterday and he helped to design a much simpler circuit that is easy to build as well as giving extremly good feedback from the dish using potentiometers. I have half built the first prototype circuit and will finih it friday aswell as testing the only draw back is that i have to fit a POT to the motor which i hope isnt to hard when this is done then the first part of the project is finished if there is time i want to integrate a computer.

progress

hello, today has been very useful with the help of James I have got the VB GUI talking in serial to the development board and now when I use the mouse to click on the left button the LEDs light up to spell out "L" and when you press the right button on the GUI the LEDs spell out "r". Need to make the code work in terms of how stuff has to work for example when you click a button it needs to say move left, go, then stop.

Spoke to john and my golas for over easter is to have the code on the way and the hardware almost made so last term can be used for finishing and testing and installing.

Hello started to write the code and build the GUI today with the help of James had a target set to have LEDs turn on with the push of my space keyboard. using james green boards to do so had a couple of issues with finding a working pic and making the USB 2.0 - serial cable work but all good now. cant think of much more to say other than iyts coming along.
